Jock itch that is called (Tinea Crusis) is a fungal infection that causes a red and itchy rash in moist and warm areas of the body like inner thighs and groins. The appearance of red and itchy is a ring shape.

It is a common infection in athletes or people who are overweight and sweat a lot.

The itchy rash is an uncomfortable situation, but it is not a serious issue. Preventive measures and treatments are available for jock itch.

Symptoms of Jock Itch:

The red itchy rash in a rung form is a common symptom of jock itch. This rash is ring-shaped and borders with a line of small blisters. It spreads to the upper thigh in a half-moon shape. The other symptoms of the ring are the following:

  • Burning
  • Itching
  • Flaky and scaly skin

Causes of Jock Itch:

The common cause of this fungal infection is the fungal organism that lives in moist, damp, and closed environments. This is a contagious infection that spreads from person to person and it is also spread from sharing personal items.

Your doctor can diagnose jock itch by looking at the rash. Your doctor takes skin samples and scrapings from the affected area and observes under the microscope.

Precautions:

Prevention is an important step to reduce the risk of infection. These precautions are the following:

  • Stay dry
  • Wear clean clothes
  • Find the correct fit
  • Don’t share personal things
  • Treat and prevent athletes foot

Stay Dry:

Keep your moist and warm areas clean and dry, like inner thighs and genital areas. To prevent the infection, clean these areas thoroughly with a clean towel after a shower and exercise. 

Wear Clean Clothes:

It is very important to wear clean clothes and undergarments. Change your undergarments once a day. Use undergarments that are made up of cotton and breathable fabric that helps to keep you dry.

Find the Correct Fit:

It is very important to wear clothes that fit you correctly. Avoid wearing tight-fitting clothes that can rub your skin and increase the risk of infection on the body. 

Don’t share your Personal Things:

Don’t share your personal items with other people like towels, clothes and don’t borrow these things from others.
