Iron-deficiency anemia is a disease in which the hemoglobin level is decreased in the red blood cells.

Hemoglobin is a protein present in red blood cells that carry oxygen and provide it to every single cell of the body.

Iron is a mineral that is important to make hemoglobin in the body. The human body needs iron to make hemoglobin.

If iron is deficient in the blood, the whole body doesn’t get the sufficient amount of oxygen required to do different activities. This condition is commonly known as iron deficiency anemia.

Iron deficiency anemia is very common in people, and they even don’t know that they have suffered from this disease.

In women, anemia is very common, especially during pregnancy. It is caused due to heavy bleeding during menstruation.

Less intake of iron in your diet is the most common reason for iron deficiency in the body.

Daily iron intake is important for the body especially for women because they lose blood during menstruation every month.

Add iron-rich foods to your daily diet plan. Foods such as meat, egg, green vegetables are iron-rich foods. Eating these foods helps to overcome your iron deficiency in the body.

Inability to Absorb Iron:

Due to some diseases like celiac disease, intestinal surgery such as heart bypass your body can not absorb a sufficient amount of iron.

These diseases and medication of certain diseases cause iron deficiency in the body even you take enough iron in your diet.

Some diseases may interfere with the absorption of iron in the body and they limit the amount of iron that can your body absorb.

Internal Bleeding:

Internal bleeding as a result of injuries can cause iron deficiency. Some medical conditions are the common cause of internal bleeding.

Some diseases like ulcers in the stomach, polyps in the colon, and colon cancer cause internal bleeding.

The use of pain relievers like aspirin cause bleeding and soreness in the stomach. And this condition may be fatal.

Endometriosis:

It is a disorder of tissue growth inside the uterus (endometrium). Sometimes the tissue grows outside the uterus. It is very painful.

Endometriosis causes heavy bleeding in females. Heavy bleeding is occur in the lower abdominal area and pelvic area.

Pregnancy and Blood Loss during Menstruation:

Iron deficiency anemia during childbearing age is very common in women. Every month blood loss during the menstruation cycle causes iron deficiency in the body.

During pregnancy, spotting cause blood loss and heavy blood loss during childbirth cause severe iron deficiency anemia.
