Diabetes:

Diabetes is a disorder in which the body’s sugar level increases. This disorder impairs the body’s ability to produce insulin that is a hormone that converts food energy into glucose. The insulin stores extra glucose in the liver.

When insulin is not produced in the body it doesn’t store extra glucose levels in the body. As a result, the amount of glucose in the body increases and leads to a serious condition of diabetes.

If diabetes is left untreated it can damage important body organs like nerves, eyes, kidneys, and many other organs.

In this blog, I will tell you about everything about this disease. I will tell you about the types, symptoms, causes, complications, and treatment of diabetes.

Types of Diabetes:

There are four types of diabetes. These types are the following:

  • Type 1 diabetes
  • Type 2 diabetes
  • Prediabetes
  • Gestational diabetes

Type 1 Diabetes:

This type of diabetes is also known as diabetes insipidus. It is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system of the body attacks the pancreas and destroys the cells where the insulin is made.

This is a rare disease and is different from other types of diabetes but this condition is very dangerous for the patients because in this condition the kidneys remove too much fluid from the body that causes kidney damage and leads to serious issues.

Type 2 Diabetes:

This is a common type of diabetes and Type 2 diabetes is also known as diabetes mellitus. It is a condition in which the body becomes resistant to insulin. As a result, blood glucose levels increase in the body.

Prediabetes:

It is a condition in which the blood sugar level increase than normal. But in this condition, blood sugar levels are not enough increased for a diagnosis of diabetes mellitus.

Gestational Diabetes:

Gestational diabetes is a type of diabetes in which blood sugar levels increase during pregnancy. This type of diabetes occurs due to some insulin blocking hormones. These hormones are produced by the placenta and cause gestational diabetes in the mother’s body.

Symptoms of Diabetes:

Commonly diabetes symptoms are caused due to increase in blood sugar levels.

The general symptoms of diabetes are the following:

  • Blurred vision
  • Weight loss
  • Frequent urination
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased hunger
  • Fatigue
  • Sores in different parts that cannot heal

All these types of diabetes are different symptoms. These symptoms are the following:

Type 1 Diabetes:

The symptoms of type 1 diabetes are the following:

  • Increased hunger
  • Increased thirst
  • Weight loss
  • Extreme urination
  • Blurred vision
  • Tiredness
  • Mood swings

Type 2 Diabetes:

The symptoms of diabetes type 2 are the following:

  • Sores that can not heal
  • Frequent urination
  • Increased thirst
  • Increased hunger
  • Blurred vision
  • Tiredness

Prediabetes:

This type of diabetes doesn’t show specific symptoms.

Gestational Diabetes:

This type of diabetes occurs only during pregnancy. So this of diabetes doesn’t have any symptoms.

This condition can be diagnosed in the routine blood sugar tests that are usually performed during the 24 to 28th week of gestation.

In many rare cases, women with gestational diabetes show some symptoms like increased thirst and frequent urination.

Causes of Diabetes:

The causes of different types of diabetes are different. The causes of different types of diabetes are the following:

Type 1 Diabetes:

This type of diabetes is caused due to the attack of the immune system on the pancreas. The attack of the immune system destroys the beta cells that produce insulin in the body.

This is maybe a genetic disorder and maybe this immune system attack is a viral attack.

Type 2 Diabetes:

The causes of diabetes type 2 also known as diabetes mellitus are the following:

  • Genetic
  • Lifestyle factors

Genetic:

Sometimes type 2 diabetes is a genetic disorder. The mutations in genes occur that cause diabetes and run in families through these mutated genes. The defective genes pass to the children from the parents having diabetes mellitus.

Lifestyle Factors:

Modern lifestyle and eating habits also cause diabetes. Nowadays diabetes is a common disease due to our lifestyle. Modern lifestyle decreases physical activity and causes obesity in people.

Obesity is a condition in which fat is accumulated in the body. This condition leads to diabetes. When fat accumulated in the body the cells become resistant to the effect of insulin. As a result, glucose can not be stored and cause diabetes.

Gestational Diabetes:

This is caused due to the hormonal changes in the body during pregnancy. In this condition, the placenta produces some hormones that are resistant to insulin. Due to this reason, the extra glucose can not be stored and blood sugar levels increase. Pregnant women who are obese are at a high risk of gestational diabetes.
